2022 Fall Weatherly Hillclimb was held September 17-18, and was the final event of the PHA Championship Series. And yes, we had a wedding to celebrate, held on the Weatherly hillclimb start line. Congratulations to Crystal & Matt, and more pictures are included below.
We had perfect weather for the last event of our season. It remained perfectly dry for once, and daytime temperatures were in the upper 70’s, low 80’s.
The battle between J. Kurt Eikenberg and Bill Feist was a fun one to watch, with Kurt taking FTD on his last run in his 1994 Cheetah SR1 that he runs in Special 1 (S1) — his best time was a 50.062.
The 2022 Fall Shenandoah Track Sprint Event was held September 3-4 at Summit Point Motorsports Park in WV. While it was a little hot, it was dry for the entire event. We were offered 18 timed runs for the weekend, and that’s a record (previous record is 13, set in 2021).
Jon (Kurt) Eikenberg took FTD in his 1994 Cheeta SR1 that he runs in Special 1 with a 86.611.
The 2022 Duryea Hillclimb event was held August 20 – 21 in Reading PA. We had only 69 timed entries, and I’m sure the organizers were disappointed by the low entry count for an event that typically fills to its 100 entry limit within the first few hours of registration opening. However, from a driver’s perspective, we got 8 runs each on this 2+ mile course on a dry weekend, and most of us took full advantage of the extra seat time in almost perfect conditions!
Ten novices competed, and six new class records were set, but I’m getting ahead of myself again.
Mark Aubele once again took FTD in his 2003 Ford Mustang (with LS Swap) that he runs in Super Production Over (SPO), continuing his FTD streak – he has taken FTD at all PHA Championship Series events so far this year. Mark’s time was a 106.696, and is also an SPO class record.
The 2022 Polish Mountain Hillclimb was held August 6-7 in Flintstone, MD. The course was in excellent shape, having been completely repaved in 2020. But since it is August, we dealt with very hot weather and afternoon thunderstorms both days, so the course didn’t ever completely dry out. Despite a damp course, 5 class records were set. But I’m getting ahead of myself.
First of all, Mark Aubele once again took FTD in his 2003 Ford Mustang (with LS Swap) that he runs in Super Production Over (SPO).
The 2022 Giants Despair Hillclimb was held July 9-10 in Laurel Run, PA. The weekend was dry, a little on the warm side, but quite pleasant for the most part.
Mark Aubele once again took FTD with a 41.718 — so far, he has made FTD at all PHA events this year. Mark runs a 2003 Ford Mustang (with LS swap) in Super Production Over (SPO) .
The 2022 Pagoda Hillclimb, hosted by Blue Mountain Region SCCA, was held June 25-26 in Reading Pennsylvania. While the temperatures were on the hot side, we had no precipitation all weekend, and the road was dry. In short, my car felt that running conditions were really good, although I personally would have preferred less humidity and a stronger breeze.
Mark Aubele once again took FTD in his 2003 Ford Mustang that he runs in Super Production Over (SPO). His fast time was 77.171, which was also good for a class record, beating his own record set in 2021, with a 78.309
Spring Weatherly was held over June 11-12 this year. Despite the unfavorable weather forecast, the weekend stayed mostly dry, and we only had a little bit of rain Sunday morning. That rain was enough to give us a damp course on Sunday, although it had mostly dried out by the time we were taking our last runs of the day.
Mark Aubele (53 SPO) once again took FTD, with a 51.540 in his 2003 Ford Mustang that he runs in Super Production Over. His time was also good for a new class record in SPO.
The 2022 Spring Jefferson event was held over Memorial Day weekend at Summit Point Motorsports Park in Summit Point, WV.
Once upon a time, long, long ago…well not that long ago: It was May 14-15, 2022, at a place far, far, away,… well not that far: it was at the Carlisle, PA Fairgrounds, home of Carlisle Productions Import and Performance Car show. The warriors who attack the Pennsylvania hillclimbs (and one West, By God, Virginia, hillclimb) and Track Trials were invited to show their war horses in the Race Car Paddock.
