SCCA Eastern States Hillclimb Championship Series

SCCA Eastern States HillClimb Championship presented by Summit Racing Equipment

The SCCA Eastern States Hillclimb Championship brings together the best of two iconic hillclimb organizations—the Appalachian Hillclimb Series and the Pennsylvania Hillclimb Association Championship Series —to create a unified points championship for drivers across the eastern United States.

With five hillclimb events hosted by each series, this 10-event championship rewards versatility, commitment, and performance across a diverse range of courses and competition.

Presented by Summit Racing Equipment, and sanctioned by the Sports Car Club of America, the championship represents the pinnacle of amateur hillclimb competition in the region.

How It Works

Drivers will accumulate points throughout the season with the following format:

  • Best 5 events count toward the championship
  • Maximum of 3 events from a single series (AHS or PHA)

This structure encourages drivers to travel, compete broadly, and prove themselves across both organizations.

NOTE:  This series is currently limited to hillclimb events, and the PHA Championship Series track events are not eligible.

Points Structure

Points are awarded based on finishing position in class:

25 / 20 / 18 / 16 / 14 / 12 / 10 / 8 / 6 / 4 / 2 / 1 / 1 / 1 / 1

Championship Classes

The following classes are eligible for championship points:

  • Sport Light
  • Sport
  • Super Sport
  • Sport Max
  • Sport Unlimited
  • Modified
  • Super Modified
  • Outlaw
  • Classic Stock Car
  • Special Limited
  • Special Open

Class Notes

  • Sport Light competitors will run within Sport at Appalachian Hillclimb Series events
  • Classic Stock Car competitors will run within Super Modified at Pennsylvania Hillclimb Association events
  • All Pennsylvania Hillclimb Association classes will be eligible based on a class matrix that will be published soon.

All classes will still be scored separately for local championship points, ensuring fair competition across all venues.

For PHA members, just run in your regular class with the PHA for the PHA Championship series.  We will figure out what combined championship class you qualify for.

North vs. South Challenge

In addition to individual honors, the championship features a season-long North/South Challenge:

  • Drivers from both series contribute to their organization’s total
  • The organization whose drivers accumulate the most points claims bragging rights

It’s more than individual glory – it’s a battle between two proud hillclimb communities.
