Matthew Yip

I was reminded recently that we lost Matthew Yip on November 17, 2021.  For those of you who didn’t know him, he was the NE Divisional TT Administrator, and a great friend to the PHA.  I will personally miss him very much!

WDCR Region posted a great article on Matthew.

I knew Matt mostly through the PHA’s Summit Point events, and also from some WDCR TT events at Summit Point that I ran.  The first time I met him, we stayed up all night talking, and I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard.

And then there was that one event where my radiator overflow cap was leaking, and he gave me the keys to his house and his car to go and salvage a cap off of the many VWs he had.   I had to go inside his house, and met his very spoiled cat (the one he always pretended to threaten to cook), and he claimed that she had an attitude ever since I had a talk with her.

My favorite photo of Matt is this one — he always wore this shirt just for me:

  1. Hello, I worked with Matt at Vie de France back in the early 90s. His name popped into my mind tonight and I googled him and was sorry to hear that he has passed away. He was always a great and funny guy.

    1. Matt is definitely missed. I normally only got to seem him when we had events at Summit Point Motorsports Park in WV (he lived a few miles away), and our events down there feel weird to me without him popping by to say hello. And of course, he’d be driving some interesting car or the other and wearing that “Cat, the other white meat” shirt. Once he learned I loved cats and was also a vegetarian, he never failed to wear the shirt when he knew I’d be around 🙂

BTW, I met his cat, and she was the most pampered and spoiled beast that you could ever imagine.
