Jefferson Time Attack 2026

The 2026 Jefferson Time Attack  event was held May 23-24, 2026 at Summit Point Motorsports Park in Summit Point, WV. This SCCA sanctioned event was hosted by the Blue Mountain Region, and was the second event in the 2026 PHA Championship Series.

It was a soggy event!  The rain was coming down steadily Friday night when I finally got there. The weather man said it wasn’t going to stop, except for possibly Sunday afternoon, but we were all hoping for the best.  Surprisingly, it did actually dry out by Sunday afternoon, and the event was run until the last possible moment to give everyone who was waiting for a dryish course a chance to run.

Congratulations to Mike Robinson for taking FTD, running a 76.211 in his 1999 2011 Chevrolet Camaro that he runs in Outlaw.

Mike posted an awesome write-up for this event, which I am going to shamelessly steal, as I had to leave early (more on that later):

Friday evening was chilly and wet.  Steady rain the whole time. Sometimes light, sometimes heavy, but definitely all rain.  Thanks to our new series sponsor Summit Racing, we had some easy-ups to use for tech.

Friday evening a bunch of us were hanging out in the class room instead of our normal fire pit. Grace Huntzinger managed to get a fire video on the TV though. LOLJason Fraley had the pleasure of about 20 novices to take around the course and show them the ins and outs.  Thanks to our newest drivers.  You’re going to hear some new names in this wrap-up.

Saturday morning brought more of the same weather. I’ll take this time to thank all of our normal workers, Nancy Lewis and Ursula Whisler and the many drivers who volunteered to help out.

The racing started and as expected the times reflected the weather.
What wasn’t expected was who was on top at the end of the day.
I know none of these times count towards anything but I think its important to acknowledge those that went out and put effort in to doing the best they could. Some while getting absolutely soaked!

Ryan Allen and John (Champ) Dastjerdi started really strong and owned it for a while in their BMW.

Eventually Tim Lewis found some pace. Good enough to move in to second place overall.  James Weinheimer moved himself in to 3rd place!  I just missed knocking Champ out of 4th place. I was 2/10ths short though. 5th it was for me.

6th was another new driver. Andrew Ziolo made the trek down from New York in his awesome Monte Carlo SS.  That car is a handful!

William Pearson managed to get his Turbo Honda in to 7th.

Mark Hansen and Brad Pearson nailed 8th and 9th respectively.  Ryan P got his Subaru up to 10th. The first AWD car on the list!
Thanks to everyone who ran and worked!

Sunday was a new day. While it wasn’t raining, the air was still think with water vapor. The course was still soaked, but the forecast was promising.

The times started dropping and by lunch time we had a track ready for full speed passes.  Obviously that moved the order around a bit.
Some new names in the top 10 as well.

Shout outs to:

Tim Lewis for his 3rd place overall (First in class)
Bill Feist for 2nd and 4th place with two different cars.
Joseph Oxenham for another outstanding run in F6 and 5th place overall.
Shaun Fraley made his return in his Prototype. This was his first time driving this car and good for 6th overall. Nice Job!
William Pearson for his 7th place (First in class)
Geoff Craig made the list coming in 8th.
9th goes to Josh Bittle and his ERay Vette.
10th was a bit of a surprise. Richard Good and his beautiful Triumph finished off the top 10.

What’s this you say?  Grace left an event early?  The decision was killing me, especially as the Axarlis 16V Scirocco has decided to join me in Modified this year instead of GT3.

I got up early Sat morning to put on my “rains”, which are nothing more than Toyo R1R’s, an autocross street tire back in the day.  They are a heck of a lot better in the rain than my Hoosier A7’s when there is standing water.    Hoosier H20’s are probably the ultimate in rain tires, but I have trouble justifying them as most of my events are on a hill, and there is normally no standing water…

It rained steadily, and on the first set of laps of the day during my warm up lap, I accidentally went onto the old part of the course instead of the straight that leads to the new course.  Since that is a turn and not a straight,  I promptly spun.   I made it  back onto the real course and continued.  Even with all of that, I managed to catch my “nemesis” — Don McLaughlin (who was on slicks) —  before our first lap.

(Don blew his motor on Sunday.  So I may need to pick a new nemesis until he builds a new motor).

I have not had this much fun on Jefferson in years.  There is something about this course in the rain!

My first experience with it in the rain was years ago — a hurricane was passing over the track, and I had thought about sitting it out when Bob Oswald Sr asked me what I was going to do with my rain tires — let them dry rot in the basement? He was right, and I went out and had FTD for a while until his crazy son, Bob Jr, put the rain tires on his Solo V and beat me.   At least I had a roof and a windshield!  The course dried out and I went back to the back of the pack where I normally am 🙂

Anyway, I was actually doing well, standing 3rd overall,  and seriously having the most fun at this track in years as I said earlier!  Unfortunately, I had an emergency back home with one of my cats, and was only able to take the first two sets of laps.

My cat, Sigmund, is doing better, but is still in guarded condition.
